Hi!
Me and my girlfriend are planning to go on a trip with the Interrail global pass between July 4-10. We have looked up some routes, though on some days we have to change trains to reach our next destination. Our concern is that we may not we able to catch the next train if the first train arrives late due to the transfer time being 15 minutes. I have two questions about this:

1:
If we miss our transfer because the first train was late can we get a refound or some compensation on the seat-reservations?

2: On the pictures below you can see the routes and the trains we would like to take. Do you think we can transfer from one train to another without any problems? Are delays greater than 10 minutes common on these lines?

Thank you for your answers.

You can always get a refund for seat reservations that you were unable to use because of a delay. You can claim this, plus a small compensation, here: https://www.interrail.eu/en/support/delay-compensation

In the Bolzano/ Bozen example, your supplement would still be valid on the next train, but you can refund the reservation if you made one.

Those connection times look fine. As always, if the planner suggests it, then it’s doable. It’s no guarantee - delays happen - but it’s a legal connection. As it’s a replacement bus, it will wait for a delayed train under normal circumstances.

Thank you very much! Your answer helped us a lot!

2 remarks:

  1. Use a proper planner to plan your trip, which means not the Rail Planner app, which is out of date and unreliable. Use national planners or bahn.com for international journeys.
  2. Please cancel the activation of your pass. It's not a good idea to activate a pass or a travel day in advance.
